SANBI, Cape Town, 14-16 March 2023
The iAtlantic Project and SeaMap Project are collaborating on this workshop to contribute to the development of capacity in policy advice, sharing lessons learnt in South Africa on how to transfer science into the policy realm so that science is served in a manner that can be taken up into policy and decision making. The workshop will help emerging researchers to influence policy through their science and gain confidence in working across the science-policy continuum. This is hoped to encourage scientists who may feel intimidated to interact in the policy realm and in international workshops, and improve their ability to communicate and package their work. Please see the full details and outline programme here.
Space is limited so please use the online registration link to register your interest in participating. Please note that travel support is only available for South African students and early career researchers. Registration deadline: 20 February 2023.
We are delighted to be organising this stakeholder event at the European Parliament on 2 March 2023, 14:15-16:00. This event will highlight results emerging from EU-funded research into the ocean-climate-biodiversity nexus in the Atlantic, followed by multi-stakeholder discussion. The event is hybrid and open to all – we hope you can join us!

This PhD position aims to understand, on a regional scale, how the seascapes can influence the water column at depth and ultimately the deep-sea benthos. The major objective is to understand how the deep-sea species are using the seascapes to move in the ocean at the different life stages, and performing different ecological function (dispersal, migration and trophic connectivity). The Mid Atlantic Ridge near the Azores archipelago it is the perfect laboratory to study this landscapes. It is recognized for its biodiversity and presence of different habitats including vulnerable ecosystems (seamounts, hydrothermal vents and mid ocean ridges). By the project completion, we expect to validate the concept of using the multiple data to explain connectivity among populations of the different habitats, to improve governance in the area of marine resources and spatial sustainable management.
