In July-August 2021, a team of marine scientists from the iAtlantic project undertook a 6-week expedition to investigate and explore the ecosystems and natural processes in the deep sea around the Cabo Verde islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. This expedition – known as iMirabilis2 – was much more than a scientific mission: on board was a cohort of early career scientists who participated in hands-on, at-sea training in a range of cutting-edge techniques and skills that will equip them to be the expedition leaders of the future.
Use the links below to discover more about the expedition: participants who went aboard the ship, what science was conducted and its legacy. You can learn more about the techniques and equipment we use to sample and survey the deep ocean, and join our early career researchers as they learn how to use them.
