iAtlantic General Assembly 2022

The 4th iAtlantic General Assembly was conducted in Florianópolis, Brazil on 10-14 October 2022. The meeting was attended by more than 100 participants with >60 people attending in-person and others joining remotely. The week’s conference programme featured:

  • 48 plenary presentations presented live during the plenary sessions
  • 32 pre-recorded presentations submitted and discussed during the iAtlantic Objectives sessions
  • 16 workshops / working group meetings / break-out sessions
  • 5 sister projects participating in a dedicated session

Congratulations to Jose Angel Perez at UNIVALI who was awarded the iAtlantic Hero Award 2022, and to the winners of iAtlantic Photo Competition – Solvin Zanki & Saskia Brix at Senckenberg Research Institute.

The General Assembly was a great success, giving the iAtlantic team valuable opportunity to come together to reflect on progress, celebrate achievements to date, and plan for the final 12 months of the project.

The General Assembly was also preceded by a 1-day capacity-building workshop on ocean governance, led by policy experts Ben Boteler, Matt Gianni and Luise von Pogrell, with contributions from David Johnson and Vikki Gunn. This session examined the current international and regional policy landscape for the Atlantic, and focused on ways to get iAtlantic’s key science messages across to stakeholders.

After the GA, some participants joined the Cold-water coral taxonomy training school at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Florianópolis, on 15-17 October 2022. Read more about the training school here.
